On December 5-6, 2018, Girteka Logistics took part in the conference “Vision Zero for Sustainable Road Safety in the Baltic Region”. The major aim of the event was to highlight road safety by cooperation of Sweden, Norway and Lithuania.
Neringa Rimšelienė, Manager of Marketing and Communication Division at Girteka Logistics, presented the report “Road safety education – CSR at the heart of business”. She said, “we are a large and a growing company. This creates a huge sense of responsibility: we care not only about our customers and the quality of our services, but also about driver safety, community wellbeing, and environmental protection.”
Girteka Logistics operates its fleet of 5600 trucks and 5800 trailers and is an active traffic participant. “In 2018, we have been continuing our close partnership with the Lithuanian Police and Vilnius Police Inspector-Commissioner Aistė Dijokaitė, who has been educating children about safety on the road for 11 years already by also taking part with us in various traffic safety initiatives: The Road Safety Day in Vilnius and Šiauliai, the 100th anniversary of the Police, “Be Visible” – a campaign of distributing reflectors in Vievis, also the discussion festival “Makes sense!” (“BŪTENT!“) in Birštonas” – Neringa Rimšelienė shared the company’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) experience.One of the company’s major priorities is the education of drivers and the community with the use of up-to-date tools.
The idea of Vision Zero originated in 1995 in Sweden. After more than two decades, this initiative is proposed and developed in countries all around the world. Vision Zero provides the moral commitment of the society and the aspirations that no person would be injured or killed on the road.
Participants of the event were invited to listen to the speakers and to also visit the Girteka Logistics Educational Reflection Zone. The Conference Vision Zero for Sustainable Road Safety in the Baltic Region, in which we took part for the first time, was attended by as many as 38 lecturers. Among them were high-level heads of public institutions, CEOs of innovative companies from 8 different countries of the world.
