Girteka Logistics is a member of the United Nations Global Compact, striving to be a positive example in both the international logistics business and the active involvement of communities. Every year, the company contributes to various educational and cultural initiatives. One of them is the support of UNICEF’s run “for every child”.
For the second consecutive year, Girteka Logistics contributed to the traditional UNICEF run “for every child” in June. This year, the event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. UNICEF children’s run is the most copious and meaningful run of children in Lithuania.
Famous Lithuanian people greeted the young runners by applauding from the Girteka Logistics semi-trailer, which was converted into a scene of the event, whereas the equipped leisure area allowed not only for relaxation, but also for having fun while blowing soap bubbles with the children, who were waiting for the start.
The small 2-14-year-old runners, who covered 500-meter and 1 000-meter distances, reminded the public that children are a huge power that changes the world.The annual run aims to help the most vulnerable and forgotten children suffering from malnutrition and fatal diseases. It is an event not only uniting people from different cultures, religions and countries, but also giving them the opportunity to help UNICEF save the lives of the world’s children.
Over the past seven years, over 16 300 young runners have participated in UNICEF Lithuania runs dedicated to children from the poorest countries, and they made over 12 million steps. 86 632 euros were donated for children from underdeveloped countries, and this saved 20 379 children suffering from malnutrition in deprived countries.
UNICEF children’s run each year is actively supported by the media, famous people, sponsors and the public. We are proud to have become part of the event and have at least slightly contributed to a brighter, safer and healthier tomorrow for the children.
