Poznań, Poland – Girteka has opened a new driver training facility in Poznań, expanding its capabilities to prepare both new and experienced professional drivers for real-life situations on the road and at customer sites. The facility will focus on developing practical skills that directly improve driving, cargo safety, operational consistency, and service standards for Girteka’s customers across Europe.
With around 10,000 professional drivers across Girteka, driver competence is critical to delivering transport at scale. Every year, the company completes around 800,000 full truckload shipments, meaning service quality depends not only on modern vehicles and technology, but also on thousands of decisions and actions drivers make every day.
The new facility gives drivers a dedicated environment to develop essential operational skills before applying them in daily work. This also includes cargo securing, the correct use of chains, forklift operation and other tasks required during loading, unloading and transportation.
“We operate in some of the most demanding segments of transport, including temperature-controlled and high-value cargo. These operations require precision, security and strict compliance at every stage. Investing in driver competence helps us protect our customers’ cargo and deliver consistently across Europe,” says Mindaugas Paulauskas, CEO of Girteka Transport.
Girteka currently operates around 6,500 trucks and 8,000 trailers, serving more than 5,000 customers. Its company-owned fleet gives the business greater control over vehicle standards, maintenance, driver competence, and how transport operations are executed.
The Poznań facility further strengthens this model by allowing drivers to build and refresh critical skills in a controlled environment before applying them in real operations.
According to Karolina Žekaitė, Head of Girteka Training Centre, professional driving today requires significantly more than the ability to operate a truck.
“Our drivers work with different cargo types, equipment, loading procedures and customer requirements across Europe. Some skills can be explained in a classroom, while others need to be developed through hands-on experience,” says Žekaitė. “Here, drivers can secure cargo, work with chains, operate forklifts and rehearse situations they will later encounter at customer sites. This helps turn knowledge into confident and consistent execution.”
Across Girteka, a total of 25-26K training hours are dedicated to professional driver development every year, covering both new drivers entering the organisation and experienced drivers strengthening or refreshing their skills.
The new facility supports Girteka’s continued investment in driver competence and operational standards, helping ensure safer cargo handling, consistent service quality and the company’s commitment: Our Fleet. Our Responsibility.
