Girteka to open an office in Tbilisi, Georgia, and establish Girteka Global Business Services

2022-05-17

Girteka, which has the largest asset-based fleet in Europe, will continue expanding its international reach by opening an office in Tbilisi, Georgia, where the newly-established Girteka Global Business Services (GBS) will begin operations in mid-2022. Creating over 300 jobs over the next two years, the company plans to expand its operations in the country to recruit more talent to satisfy its growth needs and strengthen its position in the logistics market.

The new services company will look to employ about 50 people this year alone, doubling in size in various departments, including IT, People and Culture (HR), and other areas in 2023, as a new office will be opened in the capital city of Georgia. The decision to grow in an additional international market will strengthen the company’s bid to be amongst the top 10 logistics companies in Europe by 2026, as an expanded talent pool will allow Girteka to increase its operational capabilities in Europe & Nordics.

“Our goal is to create something that many leading Fortune 500 companies have – an excellent business services company. This time, Girteka’s expertise will be the cherry on top of the Global Business Services (GBS) cake, which will allow us to bring additional talent and another worldview into the group,” commented Martynas Sarapinas, the Chief Information Officer at Girteka. “Usually, global businesses buy services from true centers of excellence that operate in a form of the centralized unit and we will try to create that unit that will attract new talented colleagues, allowing us to scale even faster and benefit Girteka in the long run,” added Sarapinas.

“We chose Georgia out of a list of six countries, all of which went through a very deep due diligence process by us, where we looked at several factors, including the talent pool, education and competence level, business climate, and the cost of doing business in the country over the following years,” further explained Sarapinas.

Girteka Global Business Services (GBS) will not replace any functions that are currently overlooked by colleagues in Lithuania and will only supplement the company’s current operations with their expertise and insight, as Girteka continues to grow and transform into one of the largest logistics companies in Europe.

“We have to be proud that we are an international company. We haven’t been an exclusively Lithuanian company for a long time, as we aspire to become a truly international logistics giant in Europe over the past few years,” concluded Sarapinas.

Girteka Logistics is the largest European asset-based road freight transportation provider, transporting more than 880,000 full truckloads every year with over 9,000 trucks operating in Europe, Scandinavia, and CIS countries. Supported by over 21,000 colleagues, Girteka Logistics has been the choice of the largest international brands for their transportation needs.
