Preparation for one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year – the 61st Biennale Arte – has reached its finale. Today, a truck departed from Lithuania carrying elements of the exhibition created by artist Eglė Budvytytė and her team, which art enthusiasts will be able to view at the Lithuanian Pavilion starting this May. The reliable journey of the artwork from Vilnius to Italy is being ensured by Girteka, a partner of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art (LNMA).
This year, the Lithuanian Pavilion, organized by the LNMA, is represented by artist Eglė Budvytytė, presenting an ambitious exhibition centered on a three-channel film installation. Pavilion visitors will be able to experience a poetic and performative interpretation of archaeological material. The newly created film was inspired by anthropologist and archaeologist Marija Gimbutienė’s research into Neolithic communities and the animist worldview. This year’s exhibition stands out for its complexity: the artist’s vision required not only creative drive but also special engineering and logistical solutions.
Adelė Lasionytė, Head of Business Development at Girteka Logistics, emphasizes that moving artworks requires exceptional precision due to their fragility, sensitivity to environmental changes, and the need for non-standard solutions. Such projects demand experience in handling high-care cargo, which the company deals with daily.
“We are honored to help transport the artwork representing our country to one of the most important cultural events in the world. Our experience in high-care cargo logistics gained over three decades, own modern fleet, highly experienced drivers, and accurate planning allow us to directly and confidently control every stage of such a journey,” says A. Lasionytė.
LNMA representatives note that the logistical part of artworks often goes unnoticed, yet it is vital for the success of an exhibition.
“We are delighted to continue our cooperation with Girteka, which already became a reliable LNMA logistics partner in 2024. In international projects, transportation is not just a technical process – even a dismantled artwork requires precise care. Climate control, security, and the proper moving of electronic equipment and sensitive elements – in our case, for example, a table made of wax – are significant factors ensuring the quality of the future installation,” shares the pavilion commissioner and Director of the LNMA, Dr. Lolita Jablonskienė.
The intersection of logistics and art
According to A. Lasionytė, such projects reveal the role of logistics in a broader context – as a vital link in the ecosystem of culture and international projects. The company has already contributed to similar initiatives, ranging from the previous project at the Venice Biennale to transporting a Lithuanian Sea Museum ship to “SAIL Amsterdam”, while the opera “La serva padrona” toured throughout Lithuania and the Baltic States using a truck semi-trailer converted into a stage.
“We are carrying something priceless – a unique creative vision and cultural heritage. Therefore, we feel a great sense of professional pride in being able to contribute even a small part to such social projects”, says A. Lasionytė.
The 61st International Venice Art Biennale will officially open its doors on May 9, 2026, and will be open to visitors until November 22. This time, the Lithuanian Pavilion will be located in an authentic Venetian space, the former forge “Fucina del Futuro”, located near the main axes of the Biennale – the Arsenale and the Giardini gardens.
